The Brain Injury Recovery Center at Penn Medicine Rehabilitation offers a group of services designed to help restore the highest possible mental and physical function after a brain injury. Brain injuries are complex conditions that require a team to assess, understand and treat. We work to restore cognitive function and reduce or eliminate disabilities using a multidisciplinary approach to care.
Our patients come from all walks of life and may have experienced a traumatic brain injury, post-neurosurgery brain injury (tumor, aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation), or an injury due to lack of oxygen or other neurological conditions.
Our brain injury program focuses on comprehensive medical, nursing and therapy care to help patients recover from conditions such as:
“[The therapists] brought me back from the state of a baby. I wasn’t able to talk. I wasn’t able to walk or anything. Then out of nowhere, I was able to walk and talk — so it was just magic before my eyes.”
– Erik Simmons, Former Patient
Our advanced Brain Injury Recovery Center features an 18-room secured floor designed for comfort and safety, with all-private rooms. The floor has quiet, specially designed treatment and dining spaces where you will have therapy and enjoy your meals.
The combination of Penn Medicine physicians and the specialized team of rehabilitation therapists and nurses of Penn Medicine Rehabilitation work with you to achieve your recovery goals. At Penn Medicine Rehabilitation, we’re committed to helping you regain your life at a pace that works for you.
When faced with a life changing illness or injury, choosing the right inpatient rehabilitation program can make all the difference. The specialists at Penn Medicine Rehabilitation, an inpatient rehabilitation unit of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, highlight what patients and families should look for when making this important decision.
Mission: The Brain Injury Recovery Center Caregiver Support Group is a group designed specifically for caregivers of individuals who have sustained a brain injury. This monthly group provides a forum for caregivers to share experiences, resources, and strategies for coping during this difficult transition from hospital to home and the community.
Monthly meetings: This group meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 3 – 4 pm in the fourth floor multipurpose room.
